Taking artists' sight away to give it back to the cataract-blind through art created with cataract simulation for the John Fawcett Foundation and the Affordable Art Fair.
In 2015, we were contacted by the John Fawcett Foundation to raise awareness for the people in Indonesia who suffer from cataracts. We developed a digital device that could simulate the experience of having cataracts. We then asked artists to wear the device and create an art piece while experiencing the virtual cataract. After two years of development and curating artists, we participated in the Affordable Art Fair and successfully sold the art created with the cataract simulation device.
Thanks to this initiative, a total of 222 individuals gained their sight back through the funds raised from the sale of the art pieces. It was a remarkable achievement that brought hope and improved the lives of those affected by cataracts.
First non-profit to exhibit among established galleries and draw the most crowds. First to introduce augmented reality in the entire history of the fair. First and only to give sight through art; restored the sight of 222 cataract patients.
